As a trainer, I too can relate to the ups and downs that most people battle. “Am I ever going to loose this weight? Is it even possible for someone like me to look like that?” Depends on what your goals are, your mind set, and genetics. Yes, I said it! Genetics play a large portion of the way your body looks. Having said that; Can you transform your body into something that YOU will be happy with? ABSOLUTELY!

I can’t say that I have “THE GENETICS” but, I can say that I am quite lucky that I am somewhere in the middle. What does that mean? It means; If I sat on the couch and did very little AS WELL AS eating anything I wanted in sight, I would be FAT.

A few years back, I took the “EAS Body For Life Challenge”. I was definitely out of shape and was in dire need of assistance. My eating habits were horrible and although I didn’t sit on a couch with bon bons, I still gained an excess of weight. I started to develop lower back pain (LBP) and of course my confidence level was low. Started to get some depression, etc.,

The Body For Life Challenge was a 12 week transformation that involved taking before pictures, data, and creating a journal. I decided to take the challenge and record my data. It was not an easy task however, I was in the correct mindset. It’s all about the mindset! I can’t stress that enough. You have to be ready to make a change otherwise, you will fail.

The mindset must be with both diet and exercise. You can not make the change without both. Also, once your initial data is recorded, STAY OFF THE SCALE! Nothing good can come from it. Too many times people jump on the scale and see little results in numbers. This discourages most and creates failure. Yes, it is a good idea to check your data BUT, we are talking about ONCE A MONTH NOT DAILY!

I too have been at fault here. I would jump on the scale (daily) and check to see if all my hard work was paying off. After 4 weeks of busting my arse and watching every single morsel that went into my body, I still didn’t see the scale budge. My workouts were even more intense then my diet. I did 45 min of High Intensity Cardio Training (HIT) plus, strength training on top of that…EVERY DAY (well…one day was left for rest…very important to let your body recoup). Talk about being discouraged. I was ready to hang the whole thing up.

Some people have a delayed reaction to the diet and exercise (I happened to be one of them). How can that be? “I may as well sit on the couch and eat anything I want if all my hard work is not going to pay off.” The key is consistency! Keep plugging away…it will happen! Everyone’s body is different and some are more efficient than others. Stay the course and you too will reap the benefits. Reaching goals don’t come easy, that’s why they are called GOALS.

My advice: Start off small with baby steps. Set realistic goals. Don’t try to conquer the World overnight. Slow and steady wins the race, but don’t be afraid to push yourself on a regular basis. No Pain…No Gain! I believe the Marines have a slogan: “Pain is weakness leaving the body”.

Here are a few pictures that show my before and after progress. Keep in mind that this was a 12 week transformation. I hate to even show people my before pictures. But, when you can see the transformation I made in only 12 weeks, it’s worth the humiliation.
